Tiffany Slaton’s harrowing survival story that broke out recently; she had been missing for 24 days since April 29, and survived through a cliff fall, an avalance, and numerous snow storms, all alone in the snowy mountains of California until she arrived at Vermilion Valley Resort. She found an unlocked cabin, which was kept that way to aid wandering travelers to find respite from the snow. Just the next day, the resort owner came, with Tiffany Slaton officially being found. What scares me the most about Slaton’s experience is that after falling off a cliff, she lost all her supplies, including her tent and bike. Despite that, she had managed to make a splint and pop one of her knees in place, and tried to call 911 multiple times, but ultimately had no signal. Satellite phone capability, such as from Motorola’s Defy Satellite Link, might make me feel a whole lot safer if I’m out hiking in the mountains. For someone who came all the way from Georgia, she sure conquered the snowy landscape of California like she was born here.
