California’s No Mask Law came into effect at the beginning of 2026, and although it specifically includes federal law enforcement as included entities, it would appear that California, as a U.S. State, does not have the power to actually force federal law enforcement to remove their masks. This would mean that other U.S. That doesn’t mean that the domestic terrorism that ICE and other federal entities will go unchecked, however. California’s own law enforcement entities, be it state or local, can (and have already) opt to not assist federal agents and to use every possible measure to stop them whenever legally possible. And as far as ICE goes, it seems that there isn’t much to argue to stop ICE’s actions, theoretically. Local and state law enforcement can compel federal agents to identify themselves as federal agents—otherwise they’re just masked criminals (and with the way they behave, they absolutely are!). I’m no lawyer, but I’m pretty sure this is correct. Feel free to inform me otherwise.
Anyways, in addition, Federal agents still have to, oh gee, I don’t know… ACT LEGALLY. Chasing random people—be it their skin color or because they were looking the wrong way at the wrong time, just is hardly legally justifiable. Bashing in peoples’ windows and property, entering property without warrants, and shooting people without any justification just is definitely way not legal. While I haven’t seen any notable events where local or state law enforcement have arrested misbehaving federal agents, there’s at least something that everyday people can do, and that is to record. Audio, video, dash cams or cell phone footage has already proved itself has an invaluable tool as means as opening federal agents up to possibly being held accountable, and against federal agencies trying to pass their own insane narratives off as fact. Still, I’d like to see states and local law enforcement do as much as they can—no one is above the law!
