Today we honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. As we suffer through a day and age where white nationalism has seen a grand resurgence I am troubled about the health and safety of our democracy. Today I wanted to pass along this little seen interview by NBC News of Dr. King as he discusses what he sees as a “new phase” of the civil rights movement on the horizon. California: Can it be the first state to offer universal healthcare?

The great State of California has been working on a bill for single-payer universal Healthcare for all state residents, as well as another bill to help fund it (by increasing taxes on the very wealthy, many, if not all of whom pay very little in taxes proportionate to their wealth). This attempt isn’t new, as it was on the ballot back in 1997 (and was rejected), nor could legislators back then find a way to fund it.

Mask mandates are back again in California

Delta is dead, long live Omicron. California is already bringing back mask mandates. Starting tomorrow on Wednesday, masks are required in any indoor capacity, regardless of vaccination status. The Omicron variant brings much uncertainty, since its characteristics, such as its virulence or how current vaccines work against it, have yet to be fully analyzed.

This new mask mandate will be in place for 30 days which means it will expire on January 15th, 2022.
