California ISO (the organization that manages our electrical grid) has declared a Flex Alert asking us to conserve energy during critical hours, specifically 4pm to 9pm, the same hours in which energy demand on our grid is the most taxing.

Conserving energy voluntarily is important to reduce strain on our power grid, otherwise rolling blackouts must be carried out, a last-resort measure. The easiest way to reduce energy usage is to simply set the AC to 78 degrees or higher. California ISO recommends precooling your home and using your high energy appliances (washer, dryer, cooking appliances) before 4pm, otherwise, refrain from using them during 4-9.
