California Governor Gavin Newsom has declared a state of emergency as the Oak Fire continues to rage out of control in Mariposa County near the city of Oakhurst and Yosemite National Park.
As of today, the Oak Fire has burned nearly 19 square miles since it started just Friday night. California is way ahead of its yearly acreage of wildfires. Usually, at this point in the summer, we have seen over 3.2 million acres burned. This year, we are already at 5.5 million acres burned.
