Update 6/25: Evictions are now banned till the end of September, giving plenty of time for unpaid rent to be paid off.
California is making a really really big move, and that is to pay off all unpaid rent that has accumulated over the pandemic, at around 5 billion dollars. This will be a win-win for renters and landlords, ish. California’s eviction moratorium will expire June 30th. Its extension is currently being discussed, and it’s likely it’ll see an extension since the funds are unlikely to be fully distributed by the end of June. Before that, California provided rental aid to people who applied for it since May, with $490 million funds available, but only $32 million has actually been given.
